Here's a recent original painting that was inspired by a sunrise over Long Island Sound I witnessed from Old Greenwich several years ago. Using a large brushes, I rapidly laid down thick paint to mimic the surfaces of rock, undulating seawater, and fast moving clouds at sunrise. The effect is impressionistic, that is, my impression of the rugged, slippery, shoreline coming to life in the diffuse morning light.
The painting is 24" x 24". The substrate is 1/4" masonite panel with three layers of white acrylic undercoat sanded. I leave some texture in the final layer to help impart interest to the painted surface. Finally, the work is finished with two coatings of removable, crystal clear, fine art grade gloss varnish. This protects the surface and enhances the color while preventing fading under normal light.
The floater frame is natural maple with a crystal clear polyurethane finish. From extra-strength gallery-style hanging wire to the protective rubber bumpers, everything you need to hang the painting is included. I'll even include a nail!
