This original oil on canvas painting was a challenge. I worked from a photo I took a few years back of this flower from our garden.
Painting with a limited palette was difficult enough, but also, keeping track of which petal I was painting when working at a close distance to the canvas was an exercise in mental focus. It was my ode to Chuck Close, if you know what I mean.
I mixed nine variations of the pink petal colors from the deepest shadows to the lightest highlights. I stored them in small disposable plastic tubs with tight-fitting lids. I stored these containers in the refrigerator overnight. The painting took three weeks working a few hours each day.
The paining is 48in x 48in and can be purchased with either a mahogany or natural maple frame. All hardware included.
