A woman is gazing out over the surf toward the horizon drinking in warm breeze. Can you imagine yourself sitting on the sand with your towel, too?
I painted this 45" x 30" canvas in 2016 based on a favorite photograph taken while vacationing early in the summer season on Chappaquiddick Island, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts. The ocean was quite turgid, the wind strong and steady, and the clouds racing across the deepening sky.
If I close my eyes, I can return there instantaneously feeling the wet sand and strong sun as if I were there in body. As I painted I experienced those sensations as I carved out the curling of the waves with my brush dipped in titanium. The most difficult part was painting the sand's undulating texture as it recedes from the viewer.
The painting can be purchased with or without a frame. I recommend the natural maple frame. But you're always welcome to supply your own. If you want the frame, I purchase them from American Frame Company, so please allow an additional 7-10 days for obtaining and fitting the frame to the work.
The painting is signed in the lower left corner and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
