During the 2020 lockdown, with nowhere to go and nothing but time, I started photographing the most ordinary objects I could find — cutlery arranged on a light table. Knives, forks, spoons. Nothing dramatic.
But the process took over. Using layer subtraction and negative inversion, I watched these familiar forms dissolve into something else entirely — a dense tangle of intersecting lines, buzzing with an energy the original objects never had. The chaos that emerged felt honest to what that year actually felt like: confined but wired, still but anything but calm.
Negative Space works on a few levels at once. It's a darkroom term, a compositional concept, and — in 2020 — something most of us understood firsthand.
This is an archival pigment giclée print, made to order at 36×24 inches on acid-free fine art paper. It arrives framed — 2-inch white matte, black wood frame, crystal-clear acrylic — ready to hang.
